PTC-SC Scholarship Program

Annual PTC-SC Scholarship Program

Graduate students are invited each year to participate in the Annual Scholarship Program of the Personnel Testing Council of Southern California. In supporting and recognizing talented researchers in the field of I/O Psychology, PTC-SC offers this scholarship to students who have recently conducted research that meets the qualification standards presented below. All qualified finalists receive free admission to the Annual PTC-SC Conference. The invitation to students is opened each fall.

2011 Awards
1ST PLACE – $750
2ND PLACE – $250
3RD PLACE – $100

To Qualify

In order to qualify, candidates must follow the guidelines below.

  • Application: When the 2012 Competition opens, instructions will be posted here on how to submit a completed application and a research synopsis (1,000 words or less).
  • PowerPoint Presentation: For an application to be complete, it must include a PowerPoint presentation comprised of 5 to10 slides which briefly summarizes the research. In evaluating the research, the committee will take into consideration the synopsis, presentation, and any supplemental information provided.
  • Topic Requirements: The topic of the research must be relevant to the scope of PTC-SC, including but not limited to personnel selection, measurement and evaluation, job analysis, recruitment, compensation, performance management, organizational development, and other relevant topics. Papers must be completed empirical research, or preliminary results of a study in progress, including theses, dissertations, or other student papers that describe original research conducted by the author.
  • Authorship: Student must be the sole author of the submission.
  • Student Status: Candidates must be currently enrolled, or enrolled within the past year, in a Master’s level thesis class.

Selection Process

Once applications are received, the Evaluation Committee reviews all materials submitted by the finalists. The finalists’ applications, synopses, PowerPoint presentations, and supplemental materials are evaluated based on the following criteria::

  • Relevance of the research to PTC-SC
  • Clarity of the presentation
  • Quality of the research
  • Contribution to the existing literature

The finalists receive free admission to the Annual PTC-SC Conference, where they may discuss their research with members of the organization.  This is also where the winners of the awards are announced and presented.
